Bio

Jennifer West is one of the pioneers of nano-scale engineering. Dr. West is the Isabel C. Cameron Professor in the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering at Rice University. She is a Member, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering; and Bioengineering, Technology & Surgical Sciences Study Section, National Institutes of Health. Dr. West’s research program is funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the state of Texas, and several private industrial sources. Dr. West received her B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. West has received the NSF CAREER Award, the Society for Biomaterials Outstanding Young Investigator Award, the Controlled Release Society Cygnus Award for Outstanding Research in Drug Delivery, the Parke-Davis Atorvastatin Award for Research in Applied Vascular Biology, the MIT Technology Review TR100 (100 most innovative young scientists and engineers), the Frank Annunzio Award for Innovation, Christopher Columbus Foundation, the Duncan Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement, and the Chance Prize for Excellence in Teaching.
