Bio

Mr. Weiss is an accomplished serial entrepreneur and focuses on Clean Tech companies in his work with Point Judith. He is a member of the Clean Energy Venture Group and the Boston Cleantech Angels. In this capacity he works with small technology startups in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to identify seed capital and venture capital, assist in hiring their management and engineering teams and solidifying their go to market strategy. He is currently a board member at Scalable Displays (Ma), Andera Software (RI) and Alektrona (RI), and a board observer at Outsmart Power Systems (Ma) and Solantro Semiconductor (Ottawa, Canada). Jeff has been a founder of and held various technical and management roles in a number of hardware and communications companies. He was Vice President of Engineering of Digital LightCircuits, which researched photonic switching devices at Brown University, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Omnia Communications (acquired by Ciena in 1999), and later served as Vice President of Systems Architecture for Ciena. Other companies he has been involved with include Codex Corporation, Sphere Technology, Cryptall Communications, Magnalink Communications, and Telco Systems. Additionally, Jeff has been issued a number of patents pertaining to data encryption, data compression, switching systems, and parallel computer processing. Earlier in his career, Jeff was an engineer at Bendix Corporation and IBM’s Thomas Watson Research Center. Currently Jeff serves as a member of the Curriculum Advisory Committee at Brown University Electrical Engineering, an MIT Educational Counselor, and was formerly Chair of the Lincoln, RI School Committee. He holds a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MS from Columbia University and is a 2009 Clean Energy Fellow of the New England Clean Energy Council.
